Mississippi Power will host Energy Efficiency Fair

GULFPORT, Miss., July 19, 2011 – Mississippi Power is hosting an Energy Efficiency Fair at Edgewater Mall on Saturday, July 30, to continue educating customers on ways to better manage their energy consumption.

Topics such as energy saving and home improvement tips, efficient lighting options and available products and services are just part of what visitors can expect to find.

But this event isn’t just for adults. Giveaways will be available for children and Mississippi Power’s "Green Machine," a bicycle that generates energy when pedaled, will be on hand.

"We’re looking for a fun, interactive day at Edgewater Mall," said Frank Magee, senior marketing analyst for Energy Efficiency.

Along with energy efficiency tips from Mississippi Power, representatives from Coast Electric Power Association will provide information on available programs for their customers as well.

Representatives from Sears will discuss the latest energy efficient appliances that are available on the market, including Energy Star® appliances and new technologies such as heat pump water heaters. This event is one of 100 nationwide events, and the only one in Mississippi, to have been chosen by Energy Star for their "ENERGY STARs Across America" campaign.

Pearl River Valley Opportunity will also be on hand to discuss some of the federal energy programs that are available such as the Federal Weatherization Assistance Program. This program is geared towards the elderly, disabled, and lower income families with children. The goal of the program is to assist those who qualify to make their homes more energy efficient by making minor energy improvements.

"We typically experience our highest demand for energy in the summer months," said Magee, "and this year is no different. So it’s important to ready yourself with energy efficiency knowledge so you can do everything in your power to keep your energy consumption down."

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mississippi Power, a Southern Company subsidiary, serves approximately 188,000 customers in 23 Southeast Mississippi counties.
