“Bring It!” Harrison County
Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event set for Nov. 5
GULFPORT, Miss. – The 16th annual Harrison County household hazardous waste collection event known as “Bring It,” will be held Saturday, November 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mississippi Power’s Plant Jack Watson on Cowan Road in Gulfport. The event is designed to provide Harrison County residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of hazardous household waste, free of charge. “For 16 years, this event has helped decrease the amount of harmful material and debris improperly discarded in our water systems and landfills. It’s a delight to assist with these continued efforts,” said Harrison County Supervisor and event originator Connie Rockco. Event organizers are prepared to collect a wide range of waste products. These include chemicals, paints, oils, batteries, tires, and appliances such as refrigerators, washers, dryers and stoves. It also includes e-waste such as cell phones, computers, fax machines, television sets and VCRs. Expired prescription drugs will also be accepted. Medical waste, furniture, asbestos, or items containing explosive or radioactive material will not be accepted. Waste from businesses will also not be accepted as the event is provided as a service to local residents. From the events inception in 1995, more than 300 tons of hazardous material has been collected. “BRING IT” is sponsored by Mississippi Power, Harrison County Board of Supervisors, Harrison County Beautification Commission, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Harrison County HazMat Team, Gulfport Fire Department, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., RPM Pizza, Waste Management, Surplus Supply, Waste Oil Collectors, Interstate Battery, Howard Avenue Firestone, American Medical Response and S.H.
