Old refrigerators and freezers typically use four times more electricity than newer models. Gulf Power customers can now get rid of their old refrigerators or freezers for free and receive $35 for each appliance they recycle.
Pick-up is free for working refrigerators or freezers and is limited to two units per customer address per calendar year. Refrigerators or freezers must be between 10 to 30 cubic feet in size.
Gulf Power’s refrigerator and freezer recycling program offers an environmentally friendly way to dispose of old appliances. Appliances in this program are sent to a recycling facility operated by JACO Environmental, a leading, national provider of appliance recycling services. JACO's process includes the recycling of nearly 95 percent of each refrigerator including metals, plastic, oils and the foam insulation.
By purchasing a newer refrigerator or freezer model customers can save up to $150 annually on electricity bills.
Gulf Power is currently offering several other energy-saving programs and rebates. Customers can receive expert advice on where they can improve their energy efficiency by participating in a Gulf Power Energy Checkup.
Energy Checkup is a free evaluation of how energy is used in your home. Customers will receive specific recommendations about energy efficiency, home improvements and steps to improve energy efficiency that can help them reduce their electricity use.
