ATLANTA – Georgia Power President and CEO Paul Bowers today announced that Leonard Owens has been elected vice president of human resources (HR) by the Georgia Power board of directors. Owens, currently director of HR, will add labor relations to his existing HR responsibilities which include health and wellness, talent management and HR delivery organizations.

Owens will report to Stacy Kilcoyne, Southern Company vice president of human resources. He will remain a member of the Georgia Power Management Council.

“Leonard’s proven ability to develop, drive and align people to achieve business results has made him a valuable member of the Georgia Power leadership team,” said Georgia Power President and CEO Paul Bowers.

“His expanded role will support our continued efforts to ensure our people priorities support and align with business strategies,” Kilcoyne said.

Previously, Owens served in a variety of roles in the customer service and operations organization, including Madison area manager, active collection manager and customer service manager. Earlier in his career, he held HR positions focused on retirement planning, health care services and pensions.

Owens joined Georgia Power in 1979, spending eight years as a construction analyst and then HR supervisor involved with the construction of Plant Vogtle units 1 and 2.

Earning his undergraduate degree in business administration and management from Fayetteville State University, Owens also received the Program for Management Development diploma from the Harvard Business School. He is also a member of the Society for Human Resources Management.

Owens is active in his local community, serving as a community coach and mentor at elementary and middle schools in DeKalb and Newton counties. He also has served as a Youth Sports Coach in both DeKalb and Rockdale counties.
