Four Gulf Power linemen will take part in the introduction of a Florida House of Representatives resolution to honor lineworkers across the state. The bill will be introduced Friday, March 2 in Tallahassee.

The four include Clint Floyd, Mark Truitt and Robert Duke, all Line Techs in the Pensacola area, and David Cope, the Planning & Construction Team Leader in Panama City Beach.

They will be among more than 70 lineworkers across the state who will be on the floor of the House of Representatives in Tallahassee, where Rep. Seth McKeel (R-Lakeland) will introduce a resolution making Aug. 26, 2012  “Lineworker Appreciation Day” in the state of Florida.

“Our lineworkers are some of the most visible faces of Gulf Power in providing reliable electric service to our customers across Northwest Florida,” said Gordon Paulus, Gulf Power spokesperson. “We appreciate their work every day and we applaud and support this recognition across the state.”

The motivation for Lineworker Appreciation Day comes from Tracy Moore, wife of former Lakeland Electric lineman Marc Moore, who died while working on Aug. 26, 2002. The resolution will honor thousands of men and women who risk their lives every day, ensuring the reliable delivery of electricity throughout the state.

Nationwide, more than 114,000 lineworkers maintain the country’s 5 million miles of transmission and distribution lines and also pitch in to help fellow utility workers in the wake of natural disasters.
