Gulf Power employees in energy group to help Habitat build
Gulf Power employees from the American Association of Blacks in Energy will be helping with a Habitat for Humanity home project in Pensacola on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. These employees who are members of the Gulf Coast Chapter of AABE will be pitching in at the Habitat site at 1118 North “S” Street in Pensacola. The Gulf Coast Chapter of AABE includes about 100 employees from Southern Company, Gulf Power, Alabama Power and Mississippi Power employees and other energy industry members.
AABE also promotes professional development and career opportunities in the energy industry and has a voice in Washington and state capitals. It serves as a resource for policy discussion of the economic, social and political impact of environmental and energy policies on African Americans and other minorities.
Pensacola Habitat for Humanity has built more than 800 homes in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Habitat for Humanity homes is not a giveaway program; homes are sold with no profit made and the house payments are recycled to build additional homes.
“Our employees work to make a difference every day as we provide electric service to Northwest Florida, and this AABE project with Habitat for Humanity is a great example of a true partnership that will make a difference,” said Natalie Smith, Gulf Power Communications Specialist. “At the end of the day, these employees will know that they’ve worked to help put a worthy family into a good home in Pensacola.”
