What:              The 13th annual Lay Lake Renew Our Rivers cleanup is April 16-21. Cleanups will take place at various locations during the week and conclude with a community cleanup on Saturday, April 21, followed by a picnic lunch.

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lay Lake Home Owners and Boat Owners Association. In 2011, approximately 300 volunteers removed more than 9 tons of debris from the lake. More than 385,000 pounds of trash has been removed from Lay Lake during volunteer cleanups since 2000.

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:     From Birmingham, take U.S. Highway 280 East 15 miles. Turn right onto Chelsea Road and continue onto County Road 47/North Main Street. Once in Columbiana, turn left onto East College Street/State Route 25 Business, followed by a slight right onto County Road 28/Ferry Road. Take a left onto Alabama 145 North. Turn right at Beeswax Park Road and go to 245 Beeswax Park Road.
