Gulf Power crews will travel to Sarasota

A Gulf Power Company storm team will leave for Sarasota, Fla., Tuesday morning to help Florida Power & Light Company restore power to their customers as Tropical Storm Debby slowly moves northeast.

Sixty-seven employees from Gulf Power will support FPL with 24 bucket trucks. These employees will help assess the damage and work to restore power. The crews are prepared to work for up to one week and will assist as needed.

FPL serves approximately 4.5 million customers and is the largest electric utility in Florida.

“It’s common for utilities to help each other and we’re just glad to be part of the effort,” said Jeff Rogers of Gulf Power. “Gulf Power customers have experienced some scattered outages since Tropical Storm Debby began, and we have crews remaining here to respond as needed."

The utility has already made contact with its sister utilities, Mississippi Power, Alabama Power and Georgia Power, should it need to call on their resources for assistance.

Gulf Power reminds customers to remain diligent in watching the storm until it passes. Visit Gulf Power’s Storm Center website for updates about the storm and Gulf Power’s efforts.
