The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded more than $36,000 in inaugural Gateway grants to fund materials for signs to greet visitors to cities, towns and communities across the state. The Gateway grant program is designed to help keep communities beautiful and vibrant.  

“The Alabama Power Foundation tries to improve quality of life and the environment by connecting to our communities in more ways than just supplying power,” said John Hudson, president of the Alabama Power Foundation. “Providing an attractive gateway into these communities can help spur economic development, maintain civic pride and help areas rebuild after the April 2011 tornadoes.” 

 

Twenty Alabama communities are receiving Gateway grants in 2012. These communities are:

·         Aliceville

·         Ashford

·         Chickasaw

·         Eastwood community, Birmingham

·         Fultondale

·         Gainesville

·         Gordon

·         Jasper

·         Malvern

·         McKenzie

 

·         Monroeville

·         Montgomery

·         Ozark/Dale County

·         Phenix City

·         Providence

·         Samson

·         Saraland

·         Slocomb

·         Trussville.
