Hurricane Isaac News Bulletin - 10 a.m. update
As of 10 a.m., Mississippi Power is reporting approximately 14,700 customers without power, with the majority of those customers in Harrison County. More than 1,000 reinforcement line crews are actively restoring power to our customers. “Now that the rain and high winds have subsided from where they were last night and earlier this morning, crews are aggressively working to restore power to customers,” said Mississippi Power Storm Director Randall Pinkston. “We are executing on a strategic restoration plan that we mapped out based upon impacted areas.” Any areas that are inaccessible due to flooding will be assessed immediately after floodwaters have receded to levels that will allow our crews to safely enter the area to restore power. As crews are working, please be mindful of work areas near roadways. On July 1, Mississippi’s “Move Over Law” was expanded to include utility crews. If you approach a utility crew parked on the side of a roadway, motorists are required to move over one lane or slow down as they approach the crew. Do not stop crews to report an outage or ask for information. Before neighborhood lines can be worked on, crews must first repair larger lines that bring power to neighborhoods.
