Hurricane Isaac News Bulletin - 4:30 p.m. update
As of 4:30 p.m., Mississippi Power is reporting approximately 4,000 customers without power, with the majority of those customers in Harrison County. Line crews from Mississippi Power, Georgia Power and Pike Electric have aggressively taken to the task of restoring power to south Mississippi residents affected by Hurricane Isaac. “We understand how difficult it is for our customers when they don’t have power. Since the beginning of the storm, nearly one third have experienced service interruptions,” said Mississippi Power President and CEO Ed Day. “We intend to have 99 percent of customers that can receive power on by midnight tonight.” Of equal importance is the company’s expertly maintained infrastructure. It provided the necessary strength to withstand the full force of Hurricane Isaac over multiple days. Over the last 7 years, the company has to rebuilt or repaired more than two thirds of the electrical system including power poles and lines. “Mississippi Power has invested in new infrastructure on behalf of our customers, and rigorously maintains it every day,” Day said. “We believe those results are evident as damage to our system during Hurricane Isaac has been minimal.” For customers located in heavily flooded areas, accessing damaged equipment remains a key problem. Even so, Mississippi Power remains committed to getting the lights back on for every customer as soon as it is safe to do so. “We will not rest until every customer’s power has been restored.” Our next outage update will be this evening at 9:00 p.m.
