What:              The seventh annual Plant Miller Renew Our Rivers waterfront cleanup is scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 14. Volunteers will meet at the boat launch near the Plant Miller entrance at 8 a.m. to remove trash from the river. Volunteers are welcome to come with or without boats.

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Alabama Power. In 2011, volunteers removed nearly a ton of trash and debris from the Locust Fork branch of the Black Warrior River. More than 27 tons have been removed since 2004.   

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:     Take I-65 North from downtown Birmingham to Exit 264, Daniel Payne Drive. Turn left and go 0.9 miles to Coalburg Road. Take a right and go 2.2 miles. Turn left on to Corridor X (future I-22) heading east toward Jasper. Go 12.2 miles to Exit 81. Turn left at the top of the ramp and go about 1.7 miles. Entrance sign for Plant Miller is on the left.
