Lake Martin Renew Our Rivers cleanup is Oct. 5-6

 

What:              The 12th annual Lake Martin Renew Our Rivers cleanup is Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5-6. Volunteers will assist in roadside and lake shoreline cleanups from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers should meet at Wind Creek State Park.

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by the Lake Martin Resource Association and Alabama Power Company. Additional partners are Wind Creek State Park, Russell Lands Corp., Advanced Disposal and Horseshoe Bend District Boy Scouts. In 2011, some 180 volunteers removed more than 9 tons of trash and debris from the lake. More than 83 tons of garbage have been removed since 2000.

 

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups are planned through October on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions:     From Alexander City, go south on Highway 63 approximately 5 miles and look for the Wind Creek State Park sign on the left.
