What:              The 16^th Annual Lake Mitchell Renew Our Rivers fall cleanup is Saturday, Oct. 27. Volunteers should meet at Higgins Ferry Park to remove trash and debris from the lake. The cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon with a picnic lunch for volunteers.

                        This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Lake Mitchell Homeowners and Boat Owners Association. In 2011, 43 volunteers removed more than a ton of trash from the lake and more than 44 tons have been removed since 2000.

Overview:      Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest

river cleanups, have collected more than 12 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 29 cleanups were held on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.
