Customer legislation passes state House
Today, the Mississippi House of Representatives passed two key pieces of legislation, the rate mitigation and securitization bills, that will reduce the amount Mississippi Power customers will pay for the Kemper County energy facility. The company issued the following statement: “We are very pleased with the decision of the Mississippi House of Representatives to stand up for the customers of Mississippi Power and vote to keep customers’ cost of electricity as low as possible. Today’s action by the House takes us one step closer to saving Mississippi Power customers $1 billion or more. The Kemper County energy facility is creating thousands of good-paying jobs, contributing over $70 million in taxes and will continue to add tremendous value to customers and to the economy of the region over the life of the plant. This is a Mississippi project, using Mississippi resources and Mississippi labor in developing clean, efficient, low-cost Mississippi-fueled energy.” For further information: Cindy Duvall (228) 861-5543
