What: The first annual Renew Our Rivers Swift Creek cleanup is Saturday, Feb16. Volunteers should report before 8 a.m. to Strickland’s Landing off Highway 14 near Autaugaville. Boats will ferry volunteers age 15 and older to clean along the shoreline. Younger participants will clean debris along roadways.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by Autauga County PALS, Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Coast Guard, Advanced Disposal Systems and Alabama Power.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast’s largest river cleanups, have collected more than 10 million pounds of trash and debris since the program’s inception in 2000. This year, 30 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior,  Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: Travel to Autaugaville on Highway 14. Turn south on Autauga Street and follow the Autauga County PALS signs to the boat ramp at Strickland’s Landing.
