"Providing the tools and resources necessary for our employees and their families to live healthier lifestyles has always been a top priority, and we remain committed to finding innovative ways to invest in the long-term health and well-being of our employees." Georgia Power employees are offered health and wellness benefits through the company's SouthernLifeStyle health and wellness program. The program provides access to on-site fitness centers at company locations across the state, health assessments, incentive programs, personalized coaching and disease management programs to employees. In addition, the program includes on-site lab draws and access to physicals and medical rooms that allow employees the opportunity to receive primary medical services without leaving their work location. Nearly two dozen public and private companies – representing more than 20 industries – competed for the awards, which were presented in three segments: large (500 or more employees), medium (100 to 499 employees) and small (1 to 99 employees). Georgia Power received the No. 1 spot in the large company category. The company's workplace health and wellness efforts were measured in a survey issued by the Atlanta Business Chronicle and its partner, Healthiest Employers, a data research company that collects, measures and compares corporate wellness data worldwide. Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation's largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility with rates below the national average. Georgia Power serves 2.4 million customers in all but four of Georgia's 159 counties.
