A Gulf Power Company storm team is headed to the Birmingham area to assist Alabama Power Company following storms Monday that knocked out power to more than 222,000 customers.

The 62 workers left early Tuesday to help repair damage from a line of severe storms that swept across the middle of Alabama yesterday afternoon.

“They’ve had some devastating storms,” said Jeff Rogers, Gulf Power Corporate Communications manager. “Our crews are headed that way now — to help but also to add to their experience restoring power after these storms. That’s a great value for our customers.”

Gulf Power sent storm teams to assist other utilities six times during 2012.

“Our crews will arrive in Birmingham this afternoon and begin work to restore power,” Rogers said. “They will be focused on getting customers’ power back on as quickly and safely as possible.”
