Alabama Power ranks #3 in country for EPA and DOE energy-efficient light campaign
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Nov. 29, 2007 - Alabama Power ranks as one of the top three companies in the United States in collecting pledges as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy’s ENERGY STAR® Change A Light campaign. The campaign encourages consumers to change the world one light bulb at a time by pledging to replace a standard incandescent light bulb with a new energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulb. More than 1,000 companies are participating in the EPA and DOE pledge drive nationally. With 14,215 pledges, Alabama Power ranks third in the country, after leading the campaign for a short time. The company has distributed 20,000 bulbs statewide, which, if used instead of standard bulbs, will save more than 4 million kilowatts hours of energy and reduce greenhouse gases. “We have always provided energy efficiency and conservation tips to our customers in an effort to help them save money,” said Mike Scott, Alabama Power Customer Service and Marketing vice president. “The bulb campaign takes it a step further where we actually provided bulbs to customers who pledged in each of our business offices in the state. I feel that together we are making a difference, and I’m proud of our commitment and service to our customers.” Alabama Power, a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company (NYSE: SO), ### Media Contact: Alice Gordon, 1-205-257-4155 or aggordon@southernco.com |
