Alabama Power Service Organization lends hand in PALS Cleanup
Volunteers assist “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” cleanup April 27

Alabama Power Service Organization (APSO) volunteers will assist in the 2013 Alabama PALS (People Against a Littered State) “Don’t Drop it on Alabama” Spring Cleanup, taking place Saturday, April 27. Volunteers from three APSO chapters – Gorgas, Magic City and Miller – will pick up litter, trash and debris in yards, common areas and roadways in communities across Jefferson County.

The cleanup coincides with the second anniversary of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes and focuses on neighborhoods that continue to rebuild from the storm devastation.

“Community enhancement and environmental stewardship are two key elements of our mission,” said Katrina Haynes, state president of APSO. “We are committed to keeping Alabama clean and see this project as a great partnership and opportunity to serve the state.”

The Gorgas chapter will clean up the McDonald Chapel neighborhood from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Magic City chapter will clean up the Killough Springs neighborhood from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and the Miller chapter will clean up the West Jefferson community from 8 a.m. to noon.

APSO is an independent nonprofit made up of Alabama Power employees and their families. With 10 chapters across the state and more than 5,000 members, APSO typically donates more than 50,000 volunteer hours to Alabama communities each year.  Learn more at www.alabamapower.com/community.
