The Alabama Business Charitable (ABC) Trust Fund has awarded Nonprofit Energy Efficiency Program (NEEP) grants to three nonprofit groups.

The United Way of East Central Alabama in Anniston, Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama in Jasper and Turkey Creek Nature Preserve in Pinson, which is part of the Southern Environmental Center, will receive funds for upgrades to make their facilities more energy efficient. The grants will provide new heat pumps for the Family Resource Center and Turkey Creek, and new lighting for the United Way.

NEEP grants are offered through the ABC Trust Fund, created in 1992 by Alabama Power. Its primary mission is to offer energy assistance to low-income families by partnering with community service agencies to help pay monthly utility bills. The trust offers other programs to help nonprofit organizations save on energy, such as NEEP grants. Since 2007, the ABC Trust has awarded more than $600,000 in energy efficiency grants to 65 nonprofit organizations.

“We are excited to partner with these great organizations and help them reduce energy costs, which will enable them to better serve their clients,” said John Hudson, executive director of the ABC Trust. The purpose of NEEP is to aid nonprofit agencies particularly those who offer health and human services by providing funding for energy efficiency measures.
