Farley unit 1 returns to service following automatic shutdown
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., June 14, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Plant Farley's unit 1 resumed electricity production on Friday, June 14 at 2:47 a.m. CT following an automatic shutdown. (Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20080801/SOCOLOGO ) On June 11 at 9:05 p.m. CT, Plant Farley's unit 1 reactor automatically shut down when a lightning arrestor failed on a transformer. All Plant Farley safety systems operated as designed and expected. All three of the transformers' lightning arrestors were replaced, and power technicians performed testing to assure the health of the transformer. Plant Farley unit 1 was returned to service safely and without incident. Plant Farley unit 2 continues to operate safely at 100 percent power.
