What:  Renew Our Rivers makes its third stop in Eufaula this Saturday, March 8, for the Lake Eufaula cleanup. Volunteers will meet at the U.S. Coast Guard Station at 160 Chewalla Drive at 8 a.m. to remove trash, tires and discarded items from the lake. The cleanup will end at 11:30 a.m., followed by a picnic lunch.

Renew Our Rivers is being coordinated by employees at Alabama Power’s Southeast Division office. Since 2006, more than 8 tons of trash and debris has been removed from Lake Eufaula.

Overview: Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign,
has collected nearly 8.6 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since its 2000 inception. There are 27 cleanups planned through Oct. 25.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: Directions to the U.S. Coast Guard Station
From Montgomery – follow Highway 82 east to Eufaula, approximately 66 miles.  Take a right onto Highway 431 south.  One hundred yards after the intersection of Highway 82 and state Highway 431, take a left onto Chewalla Drive (Gala Gas will be on your right).  The U.S. Coast Guard Station is at 160 Chewalla Drive.

From Dothan – follow state Highway 431 north to Eufaula, approximately 52 miles.  One hundred yards before the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 431, turn right onto Chewalla Drive (Gala Gas will be on your left). The U.S. Coast Guard Station is at 160 Chewalla Drive
