Volunteers roll up their sleeves for Renew Our Rivers cleanup on Lake Mitchell on March 22

What: Renew Our Rivers makes a stop in Clanton this Saturday, March 22, for the Lake Mitchell cleanup. Volunteers will meet at Higgins Ferry Park at 8 a.m. to remove trash, tires and other items from the lake. The cleanup will end at noon, followed by a picnic lunch.

Renew Our Rivers is being coordinated by the Lake Mitchell Home Owners and Boat Owners Association.

Overview:  Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign,
has collected nearly 8.6 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeastern rivers since its 2000 inception. There are 27 cleanups planned through Oct. 25.

Cleanups are held on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers in Alabama.

Directions: Directions to Higgins Ferry Park
From Birmingham, take Interstate 65 south to Clanton.  Take the Lake Mitchell exit.  Take County Road 28 until it dead ends at Higgins Ferry Park.
