Alabama Power Service Organization to Host Awards Luncheon

What: Energizers, the Alabama Power Service Organization, will host a luncheon to award grants to 16, first-year teachers who have graduated from Alabama public colleges and universities. When: Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002. The luncheon begins at noon. The awards ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. Where: Alabama Power Company corporate headquarters, 600 N. 18th Street, Birmingham. Background: The Energizers are providing $1,000 grants to each of the 16 teachers. The teachers, from across the state, can use the grants to purchase materials and supplies for their classrooms. The teachers are all employed at public schools. A list of this year's winners is attached. Energizers is a volunteer service organization that includes more than 3,500 Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear and Southern Company employees and their families. Last year, Energizers employees and families logged more than 50,000 volunteer hours and contributed more than $1 million to worthy causes around the state.
