Alabama Power Executive, Robert Holmes Chosen as Mardi Gras Parade Grand Marshal

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Holmes, senior vice president of Alabama Power, will serve as grand marshal of the 2002 Mobile Area Mardi Gras Association parade. "This is a marvelous honor. I'm humbled by the association's election, and I look forward to participating in this venerable and wonderful event," Holmes said. Ike Kidd, chairman of the association's Grand Marshal Committee, said Holmes was chosen because of his professional accomplishments and extensive community involvement. "We are very excited to have Robert Holmes serve in this position of honor. He has the credentials we look for in a grand marshal." The parade begins at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 12, in downtown Mobile. In addition to serving as grand marshal for the parade, Holmes will be the guest of honor at the Grand Marshal Ball, scheduled for Friday night, Feb. 8, at the Mobile Convention Center. Holmes also will be honored on Sunday, Feb. 10, when he receives a key to the city from last year's grand marshal. Holmes is senior vice president of ethics and business practices at Alabama Power. He also serves at chairman of the Alabama Power Foundation. A native of Birmingham, he received a bachelor's degree from Alabama A&M University and an engineering degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. A 31-year veteran of Alabama Power, Holmes is on the board of trustees of Alabama A&M and on the board of directors of Samford University. He serves on the board of directors of the Boy Scouts of America, St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham and the Josephson Institute of Ethics, among other civic posts.
