"Georgia Power's participation in Green-e Energy is monumental in that the company will be serving a great number of customers that may not have previously had easy access to renewable energy," said Andreas Karelas, Green-e Energy Regional Representative for the Southeast. "Georgia Power's green pricing program offers a real and tangible method for customers to significantly reduce their environmental footprint."

The renewable energy available to residential and commercial customers through Green Energy™ will be directly supplied from renewable energy facilities in the state of Georgia that meet Green-e Energy's eligibility criteria. By signing up to receive renewable electricity from Georgia Power, customers will support these resources as well as aid the development of new resources to be built in the United States.

"Gaining certification by a nationally recognized program like Green-e Energy really validates the environmental significance of Georgia Power's Green Energy program and elevates it to a new level," said Chris Womack, Executive Vice President of Georgia Power. "This certification signals that our program meets national as well as local environmental standards."

Green-e Energy is the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in the U.S., with over 175 participating vendors that sold nearly 10 million MWh of renewable energy in 2006. The program provides independent, third party certification to ensure certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection standards.

Providers of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy agree to abide by the Green-e Energy Code of Conduct and meet strict disclosure and truth-in-advertising requirements. All marketers of Green-e Energy Certified products undergo an annual verification audit to document that the company purchased and/or generated enough renewable energy, both in terms of quantity and type, to meet customer demand and marketing claims.

The Green-e Energy logo, the national symbol for renewable energy excellence, enables a growing number of consumers to easily identify high quality, certified renewable energy options, as well as everyday consumer products that are produced by companies that use renewable energy in their operations.
