The Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is hosting the 2002 AABE Energy Fair -- Fueling the Mind Body and Soul on Saturday, October 12, 2002, from 12 noon-5 p.m. at Western Hills Mall. This free community event will feature a variety of activities for the entire family to enjoy including informative displays, on-site cooking demonstrations, a Kids Corner, live entertainment by Foxxy Fats Band and much more.

Members of AABE are made up from the various energy and utility companies in Birmingham.

  *  Alabama Power will exhibit an environmental display and appliances, and
     perform a live demonstration on power line safety with the interactive
     "Safe-tee-opolis" exhibit.
  *  Alagasco will exhibit the latest in gas appliances.
  *  Southern Natural Gas Company will provide displays.
  *  Lowe's Home Improvement will offer information on home winter
     weatherization and energy savings tips.
  *  Jefferson County Committee for Economic Opportunity (JCCEO) will offer
     information on energy assistance programs.
  *  Kids will enjoy the Blue Flame Mascot and Louie the Lightning Bug.
  *  Door Prizes and giveaways will be awarded throughout the day.

At 2 p.m., Chef Clayton Sherrod will prepare a spectacular entree during his live cooking demonstration, followed by a cooking demonstration by Alabama Power's chef at 4 p.m.

The American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) is a professional organization of African Americans in the energy industry. Through its annual scholarship program, AABE seeks to help increase the number of minorities in energy related fields, and enhance its competitiveness in the world market.
