"The Tuskegee Airmen," a documentary recounting the historic accomplishments and challenges faced by the nation's first African-American military flyers, will be rebroadcast this February on Alabama Public Television. The film will also be broadcast for the first time on PBS stations across the country in celebration of Black History Month.

Charles McCrary, president and CEO of Alabama Power, will introduce the film on Alabama Public Television. The documentary will be shown on APT on Monday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m., and on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 10 p.m.

Alabama Power helped underwrite "The Tuskegee Airmen" in honor of the Airmen's contribution to our nation's history. "The Tuskegee Airmen" project is among many supported by Alabama Power and the Alabama Power Foundation designed to foster education and understanding, build strong communities, and help make Alabama a better place to live.

"The Tuskegee Airmen," by Rubicon Productions, was filmed at Moton Field, the site where the Tuskegee Airmen trained. The film features interviews with 10 surviving Airmen, who chronicle their experiences fighting two wars -- one against the nation's military enemies, and one against racial discrimination at home. Narrated by the renowned actor Ossie Davis, "The Tuskegee Airmen" is directed by Birmingham native W. Drew Perkins.

Alabama Public Television first broadcast "The Tuskegee Airmen" last year during Black History Month. Alabama Power hosted a special premiere of the film at the Alabama Theatre. Former President George H.W. Bush was among the guests at the premiere and at a reception honoring the Tuskegee Airmen at Alabama Power's headquarters.

In August, the Tuskegee Airmen Foundation presented McCrary with its Distinguished Service Award, the first time the organization has bestowed the honor on someone outside the Tuskegee Airmen family.

"The Tuskegee Airmen" will be broadcast throughout February on major PBS stations across the country. In addition to being shown on public television, the documentary is now part of the exhibit at the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site at Moton Field.
