What:     Alabama Power Service Organization volunteers are beginning a
            week-long blitz build to construct a Habitat for Humanity house
            in the Rock Creek area.  This West Jefferson neighborhood was
            one of the hardest hit by the deadly tornado that struck the
            Birmingham area April 8, 1998.  The home is the ninth Habitat
            for Humanity home that Alabama Power volunteers have built.

  When:     April 25 - May 3, 2001   7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
            Walls will be raised Thursday, April 26
            Roofing will be done Friday, April 27
            Indoor work will be done April 30 - May 3
            Dedication is set for Friday, May 4

  Background:
            Donette Nichols will be the owner of the new house.  Alabama
            Power Service Organization volunteers also built the Habitat for
            Humanity home for Ms. Nichols' sister, Donna Miller, in
            September 1998.  Both families are tornado survivors.  Ms.
            Nichols will help build her own house; Habitat for Humanity
            requires families who receive new homes to contribute 300 hours
            of sweat equity on various Habitat houses.  More than 150
            Alabama Power volunteers will construct the new home.
