In response to heavy rains over the past few days along the Coosa and Warrior Rivers, Alabama Power is maintaining flood control operations at Weiss, Smith and Logan Martin dams. These dams are being operated in accordance with flood control procedures established by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

  *  As of 12 noon today, the lake elevation at Weiss Dam, located near
     Centre, Ala., is at 565.6 feet above mean sea level.  The lake is
     expected to rise to 567 feet by Thursday, which is three feet above
     summer level.  Normal full summer pool is 564 feet.

  *  The lake elevation at Logan Martin on the Coosa River, near Pell City,
     is at 466.5 feet above mean sea level. This occurred as of 12 noon
     today.  The lake is expected to rise to 468 feet by Thursday, which is
     three feet above summer level.  Normal full summer pool is 465 feet.

  *  The lake elevation at Smith Dam on the Warrior River near Jasper, is
     two feet above normal at 512.2 feet above mean sea level.  The lake is
     not expected to rise above 513 feet which is three feet above summer
     level.  Normal full summer pool is 510 feet.

Along the Coosa River, Alabama Power has opened spillway gates at all dams. Spillway gates are used to manage flooding along the river. Additional heavy rainfalls may cause the water levels to rise again, therefore, causing the expected levels to change.

Persons with boathouses, boats or other property along the Coosa and Warrior River should be alert to these unusually high elevations and take appropriate measures to protect their property.
