Residents to Clean Logan Martin Lake Shoreline

  What:               The Logan Martin Lake Protection Association is
                      partnering with Alabama Power to sponsor a lake clean-
                      up as part of the 2001 "Renew the Coosa" event.

  When:               Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. to 12 noon

  Where:              Lake Martin residents clean up their own shoreline and
                      property area.

  Materials:          Participants should bring rakes and boats if needed.
                      Alabama Power will provide trash bags, disposable
                      gloves and T-shirts for all workers and a banner for
                      each working boat.  Call the contact listed below for
                      information about the nearest location to get
                      materials.

  Disposal Locations:  The following locations are available for
                       participants to dispose of trash collected.

                    *  Clear Creek Harbor
                    *  Poor House Creek Marina

  History:

Logan Martin Dam was the second dam built as part of an Alabama Power Company project that further developed the Coosa River. During the planning stages, the dam was known as Kelly Creek. During the first month of construction, Alabama Power's Board of Directors formally named the dam after William Logan Martin Jr. Martin was a circuit court judge in Montgomery and served as attorney general for the state of Alabama. In 1921, Martin was appointed as Alabama Power's general attorney. His older brother, Thomas, was one of the founders of Alabama Power Company. The hydroelectric plant was put into service in 1964.
