Lay Lake to be Lowered Beginning October 31, Reports Alabama Power

Alabama Power Company will temporarily lower Lay Lake by two to three feet to allow for maintenance work, tests and measurements to be performed upstream at Logan Martin Dam. The lowering of Lay Lake will begin on Thursday, October 31 and continue through Sunday, November 3. Refilling will begin on Tuesday, November 5 and end on Friday, November 8, when the lake is returned to its normal elevation. Abnormally high rainfall could prompt a change in the schedule. Any schedule changes will be posted on Alabama Power's automated Reservoir Information System at 1-800-LAKES-11 (1-800-525-3711). To find information about special operations at Lay Lake, press 4 for Coosa River lakes. Then press 4 for Lay Dam and 5 for special operations. People with boats and other water-related equipment and facilities should be alert to the conditions on Lay Lake and take the necessary steps to protect their property. Owners of waterfront property may want to take advantage of the lower lake level to perform maintenance work on seawalls, piers or boathouses.
