What:    The Alabama Power Foundation is pleased to announce that
           applications are being accepted for the 2001 Alabama Power
           Foundation Educational Grants. The foundation will award grants
           for innovative educational programs developed by educators. The
           maximum amount for each grant will be $1,000.

  When:    All applications must be postmarked by Feb. 1, 2001. Grant
           recipients and their schools will be announced, and grant funding
           provided by May 1, 2001.  Questions about the 2001 Educational
           Grant Program may be addressed to the Alabama Power Foundation at

  Background:  The Alabama Power Foundation has awarded 1,090 education
               grants worth more than $1.8 million since 1991.  Previous
               grant recipients are encouraged to team up with other
               educators to develop this year's grant application.  This
               approach helps develop partnerships among educators that will
               help improve grant-writing skills.
