AUBURN, Ala. - April 28, 2008 - The home of an Auburn woman will get a fresh coat of paint and other repairs thanks to a $1,000 grant from the Alabama Power Foundation.

The grant will help the Lee County chapter of Rebuilding Together on Saturday, May 3. In what is billed as “Rebuilding Day in Lee County,” the organization will make repairs and improvements to nine houses of low-income, disabled or elderly families and individuals.

A dozen volunteers from the Alabama Power Service Organization will converge on the Auburn home of Carolyn Hill (926 Salmon St.) to do electrical repairs, plumbing, painting and landscaping. They will be joined by volunteers from the Briggs & Stratton engine plant in Auburn, which is joining the Alabama Power Foundation in making a financial contribution to cover Hill’s home repairs.

“I cannot adequately convey the difference donations and volunteers from organizations such as Alabama Power make in the lives of needy people in our community,” said Hank Albritton, president of Rebuilding Together in Lee County.

“The look on the homeowners’ faces, the tears of joy in their eyes and the thanks they give turn complete strangers into friends,” said Albritton, who is also the environmental and facilities engineering technician at Briggs & Stratton. “Rebuilding Together is a wonderful way to give back to the community,” said Chelle Foster, an Alabama Power customer service specialist in the Auburn office and a board member of Rebuilding Together. “This program helps those truly in need.
