What:  The fourth annual Holt Lake cleanup on the Black Warrior River will be held Tuesday, Aug. 12 through Saturday, Aug. 16 in Tuscaloosa County.  Volunteers with or without boats can meet at 8 a.m. each day at Rocky Branch Park in Peterson to remove trash from the lake. The cleanup will end Saturday at noon with a picnic lunch.

This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by members of the Black Warrior Clean Water Partnership, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Alabama Power employees.  Last year, 123 volunteers removed 3.7 tons of trash and debris during the Holt Lake cleanup.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign, have collected more than 9 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since the program started in 2000.   There are 27 cleanups planned through September on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile Rivers.                                                                                           
 

Directions: From Birmingham, travel west on Interstate 59/20 toward Tuscaloosa. Take exit 100 (Abernant/Bucksville exit) and turn right onto Highway 216. Travel approximately 18.5 miles. Turn right onto County Road 109  (Rocky Branch Road) and travel 3.2 miles.
