Tatum is president of Spelman College and Green is president and chief executive officer of Stephen Green Properties, a commercial real estate investment and development company in Savannah.

"Beverly's keen understanding of the educational challenges we face in Georgia and her extensive experience researching and creating awareness around diversity issues will make her an outstanding addition to our board," said Mike Garrett, Georgia Power president and CEO.

"Steve, with his real estate investment and development experience and his knowledge of business and civic activities in Georgia's coastal area, will bring important insights. I'm pleased to have them both as members of our board of directors," said Garrett.

A renowned scholar, teacher, clinical psychologist and race relations expert, Tatum has been president of Spelman College since August 2002. Prior to assuming this role, she spent 13 years at Mount Holyoke College where she served as a psychology professor, department chair, dean of the college and acting president.

Tatum earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., and a master's degree and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Michigan. She also has a master's degree in Religious Studies from Hartford Seminary.

Tatum is a member of the Atlanta Rotary Club and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. She has also served on the board of directors of the Association of American Colleges and Universities and Wesleyan University. A member of President Bush's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, in 2008 Tatum was named one of the "100 Most Influential Georgians" by Georgia Trend Magazine.

A Savannah native, Green founded Stephen Green Properties in 1987 and has served as president and chief executive officer since its inception. Before heading Stephen Green Properties, Green was president of a family business, Green Distributors, a Frito-Lay distributor for Southeast Georgia. Between these two business enterprises he served four years as chief of staff for former Congressman Lindsay Thomas. In 2004, Green was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to serve on the Georgia Ports Authority board, where he was subsequently elected chairman in June 2007.

Green holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia.

He serves on the board of directors of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport Commission and the Savannah International Trade and Convention Authority, and is a trustee of the Savannah Vocational Technical College Foundation Board. He is also on the executive committee and board of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, where he has held positions as chairman and treasurer.
