What:  The 14th annual R.L. Harris Reservoir cleanup is Wednesday, Oct.1 through Saturday, Oct. 4 in Randolph County. Volunteers with or without boats can meet at 8 a.m. each day at the Highway 48 boat ramp to remove trash from the lake. The cleanup will end Saturday at noon with a picnic lunch.
This Renew Our Rivers cleanup is coordinated by members of the Lake Wedowee Property Owners’ Association and Alabama Power employees.  In 2007, more than 140 volunteers removed nearly 6 tons of trash and debris from the reservoir.

Overview:  Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, the Southeast’s largest river cleanup campaign, have collected nearly 10 million pounds of trash and debris from Alabama and Southeast rivers since it began in 2000. There are 28 cleanups planned through October on the Cahaba, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Black Warrior and Mobile rivers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

Directions: From Birmingham, take I-20 East to exit 191 S (U.S. Highway 431). Travel approximately 35 miles and turn right onto Highway 48. The boat ramp will be approximately 6 miles on the right.
