BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Oct. 17, 2008 - Robin White, marketing specialist at Alabama Power Company, along with the Alabama Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), have been named “Green Advocate of the Year” by the Birmingham Business Journal. As chair of the Alabama chapter, White has been actively engaged in promoting USGBC’s mission of energy efficiency and environmentally responsible building practices. The USGBC is a nonprofit organization of community of leaders working to make green buildings available to everyone within a generation. Beyond the issue of planning homes and buildings that consume less energy, the USGBC promotes environmentally friendly site selection and the use of environmentally responsible construction materials and processes that benefit the health and comfort of building occupants. Like the USGBC, Alabama Power is committed to protecting natural resources, promoting economic development and increasing energy efficiency. “We feel if we encourage our customers to use energy more efficiently, it will be a win-win for our company, building owners, building occupants and our state,” said White. “This is an outstanding honor for all of the USGBC volunteers, but especially for Robin,” said Randy Johnson, sales development manager for Alabama Power. “Not only are we proud of his work at Alabama Power Company, we are also proud to see him recognized as a leader in this industry by business leaders of our city and state.” ### Media Contact: Michael Sznajderman, Alabama Power Media Relations, 205.257.2401, msznajde@southernco.com |
