High school students planning to pursue a career in the energy industry will benefit from a scholarship golf outing in McDonough presented by the Atlanta Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) on Thursday, April 28, 2005.

This tournament will take place at the Georgia National Golf Club located at 1715 Lake Dow Road in McDonough, beginning with registration at 8 a.m. and a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, signaling the start of the tournament.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the James K. Davis Scholarship Fund, named after a retired Georgia Power executive, who was a longtime member of AABE and a supporter of higher education.

“The Atlanta AABE chapter consistently seeks ways to reach out to young people through various activities,” said Richard Holmes, Georgia Power’s metro region senior vice president of Diversity and Corporate Relations. “This golf outing is just one of the many ways AABE supports our youth.”

Registration fees paid before April 8 are $100 per person and $375 per four-member team. After April 8th the fees are $125 per person and $450 per team. For more details or to register, please call 404-608-5619 or 404-506-3016.

For 16 years the national organization of AABE has awarded scholarships to outstanding minority, high school seniors. The students must pursue a Bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution in such disciplines as science, mathematics and engineering. Additionally in 1994, the Atlanta Chapter of AABE established a scholarship program that has provided financial assistance to many Atlanta area high school students.

Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nation’s largest generators of electricity.
