Georgia Power has named Janice Wolfe assistant comptroller, replacing Ron Hinson, who has accepted the position of vice president, comptroller and chief accounting officer for Georgia Power.
Wolfe, a certified public accountant and 21-year veteran of the company, will also continue to serve as corporate secretary, a position she has held since June 2001.
"Janice has a wealth of financial knowledge about our company and will be an invaluable asset and resource as a member of our management team," said Allen Leverett, executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer.
As a corporate officer, Wolfe will be responsible for the financial and regulatory accounting functions of the company; working with the board of directors on various legal and regulatory requirements; and providing services to the company`s preferred stockholders, bondholders and investment community.
A graduate of Auburn University, Wolfe, 42, began her career in 1981 as an auditor in the Southern Company Services Internal Auditing department. Since that time, she has held a number of supervisory and managerial positions in Georgia Power`s accounting organization. She is also a graduate of Emory University`s Goizueta Executive Program.
Her professional affiliations include membership in the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the American Society of Corporate Secretaries. She also serves on the board of directors for Atlanta Technical College.
Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, one of the nations largest generators of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving customers in 57,000 of the states 59,000 square miles. Georgia Powers rates are more than 15 percent below the national average and its 2 million customers are in all but six of Georgias 159 counties.
