Georgia Power names Leverett to CFO post

Allen Leverett has been named Chief Financial Officer for Georgia Power, replacing Tom Fanning, who was recently elected President and CEO of Gulf Power, headquartered in Pensacola, Fla. In his new role, Leverett, 35, will also hold the titles of Executive Vice President and Treasurer of Georgia Power, the state’s largest electric utility.

"Allen has a proven track record in making sound financial and strategic decisions at Southern Company," said David Ratcliffe, Georgia Power’s President and CEO. "His knowledge, experience, vision and work ethic make him a valuable addition to our management team. He brings valuable leadership and business savvy to this critical position."

Leverett’s most recent position was Vice President and Treasurer of Southern Company Services. In that role, he had responsibility for financial planning and analysis, capital markets and leasing, treasury and investor relations.

Leverett joined Southern Company in 1988 as an engineer. He held positions in integrated resource planning, strategic planning, wholesale marketing and finance prior to being named vice president in 1997. He added the title of Treasurer in 2000.

Leverett currently serves as Vice President of Resource Development and as a Director of the Piedmont Park Conservancy.

He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree, summa cum laude, in electrical engineering and mathematics from Vanderbilt University, a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, and a Master of Business Administration degree with a finance concentration from Auburn University.
