In January, Georgia Power Company and its customers contributed more than $230,000 to Project SHARE, the largest monthly contribution made by the utility and its customers since 1994.

Managed by The Salvation Army, Project SHARE helps individuals in the community, who are experiencing financial difficulty, pay their bills and get back on their feet. Funds collected pay for things such as utility, medical and housing bills.

In January, customers generously donated $86,247.57 through bill payment and $30,404.33 through direct donations to Project SHARE. Georgia Power provided a company match of $116,651.90, for a total donation to the program of $233,303.80.

Currently, Georgia Power is the only utility participating in Project SHARE that provides dollar-for-dollar matching funds.

"This is such a worthwhile program that benefits thousands of less fortunate Georgians year in and year out. We`re so pleased by the generosity of our customers who helped make this past January a record month for giving to Project SHARE by Georgia Power," said David Stewart, Georgia Power`s project manager.

Customers of Georgia Power who would like to contribute to Project SHARE can do so either by making a $1, $2, $5 or $10 donation on their electric bills during months the company is promoting the program, by calling Georgia Power`s Customer Call Center at 1-888-660-5890 or by sending their contribution directly to The Salvation Army at: Project SHARE, P.O. Box 8237, Atlanta, GA 30306.
