Georgia Power offers online bill payment

ATLANTA—To enhance customer service, Georgia Power now offers the ability to receive and pay utility bills online through its Internet site.

The new service – called e-Bill – is an online bill delivery and payment system that gives customers another option in choosing how they would like to manage their energy payments.

“We have a growing segment of customers who prefer to receive and pay their bills online,” said Leonard Haynes, Senior Vice President of Marketing. “E-Bill meets their needs and preferences.”

Initially, customers using e-Bill will receive, view and pay their energy bills through the company’s web site. Later this year, customers will also have the option to view and pay their Georgia Power bills through the more than 100 CheckFree-supported bill payment web sites, including Yahoo!, USPS.com and BankofAmerica.com.

E-Bill can be accessed through the Georgia Power web site at www.georgiapower.com. Enrolling in e-Bill requires the customer’s account number and account access code from the paper bill, an e-mail address, and checking account information. Once enrolled, customers receive an e-mail notification when they have a new e-Bill, eliminating the need for mailing paper bills.

“Customers who want to pay their bills online will be happy with our new service,” said Haynes. “It provides the convenience they’re looking for, it’s easy to use, and it’s free. The Internet continues to become an increasingly important way for us to provide the convenience our customers want and expect.”

Georgia Power is the largest subsidiary of Southern Company, the nation’s largest generator of electricity. The company is an investor-owned, tax-paying utility, serving 1.8 million customers in all but six of Georgia’s 159 counties. Georgia Power’s rates are more than 15 percent below the national average.
