Georgia Power’s Economic Development Department helped bring $540 million in new capital investment projects and more than 12,000 new jobs to Georgia last year.

These accomplishments have resulted in Georgia Power being chosen as one of the top 10 best economic development departments in the country for 1998. More than 80 U.S. electric and gas utilities’ economic development departments were analyzed by Site Selection magazine for this top honor.

“We have a great staff of talented, professional, very dedicated people and it’s always nice to see our efforts recognized by outside organizations, especially those as respected as Site Selection magazine,” said Jim Martin, Georgia Power’s vice president of economic development.

Georgia Power’s economic development organization offers comprehensive site location services to businesses considering a relocation or expansion in Georgia. Additional services include engineering, industry-specific research and demographic information.

The organizations chosen by Site Selection were not ranked, but simply listed as the top 10 in the nation. In making its decision, Site Selection surveyed the companies, reviewed reports on their facilities and economic development accomplishments over the past year, and conducted personal interviews with leading site selection consultants.
