On July 1, 2000, Anthony R. James will join Savannah Electric as senior production officer. On election by the board of directors, he will also hold the title of vice president, power generation.

He is currently employed as central cluster manager for one of Savannah Electric’s sister companies, Georgia Power. As such, he oversees Plants Arkwright, Branch and Scherer along with the Dahlberg and Robins combustion turbine generating stations in the central portion of the state. James will retain his responsibilities at Georgia Power after assuming his Savannah Electric role.

An electrical engineering graduate from the University of South Florida, James has worked in the Southern Company system since 1978. He has broad experience in the areas of power plant management, safety and health, corporate office, employee benefits and wholesale power marketing.

Lewis Jeffers, Savannah Electric’s current vice president, power generation and senior production officer has accepted the position of Plant Manager, Barry Power Plant, Alabama Power -- another Southern Company subsidiary. Jeffers’ assignment will provide opportunities to manage new combined cycle units being added to that plant as well as managing the Theodore and Washington County generating stations located near Plant Barry.

Serving approximately 130,000 customers in a five county area of Southeast Georgia, Savannah Electric owns three generating stations: Plant Riverside in Savannah, Plant Kraft in Port Wentworth and Plant McIntosh near Rincon.
