For the third consecutive day, demand for electricity across Savannah Electric’s service area set new record highs.

Peak demand for electricity averaged 844 megawatts between 4 and 5 p.m. EDT Thursday, June 4, 1998, breaking the record set June 3, 1998, by approximately 4 megawatts.

Savannah Electric customers also used more energy across the entire day than ever before. Breaking Wednesday’s record of 15,955, they used 16,365 megawatt-hours on Thursday, June 4.

The Company is monitoring the situation closely, however, it does not anticipate problems serving the demand at this time. Savannah Electric always encourages the wise use and conservation of energy. It is believed that slightly cooler temperatures will prevent additional records today.

Savannah Electric serves over 124,000 customers in a five-county area that includes Chatham, Effingham, Bulloch, Bryan, and Screven.
