Transmission structure work means Islands Expressway lane closure week of November 1
Motorists traveling Islands Expressway in eastern Chatham County, near the drawbridge, are cautioned to look for lane restrictions next week as Savannah Electric replaces a 115 kilovolt transmission structure.
The normal four lanes of traffic will be reduced to two (one in each direction) from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday, 11/1/04 through Saturday, 11/6/04. The restrictions should only occur in the vicinity of the bridge.
Savannah Electric is working to prevent or minimize any power interruptions to residential and business customers; however, the bridge itself is expected to operate using its backup generator at times during the construction.
The company is coordinating the effort with the Chatham County Engineering Office.
Savannah Electric, a subsidiary of Southern Company, serves 140,000 customers in a five-county area of Southeast Georgia.
