A Savannah Electric Storm Team left Savannah on Wednesday as a severe ice storm brought high winds, icy conditions and widespread power outages to portions of the South.
The team, with an initial destination of Athens, Georgia, is making its way to Spartanburg, South Carolina today in response to requests for assistance from Duke Power Company.
The team consists of six total crews representing 18 employees, 12 trucks and six trailers from both Savannah and Springfield Operations Centers.
Savannah Electric has also released its contractors from Pike Electric and Asplundh Tree Services for emergency storm response.
Other Southern Company subsidiaries are also responding to similar requests from the area.
