For the first time since 1995, demand for electricity across Savannah Electric’s service area has set a new record high. Peak demand for electricity averaged 828 megawatts between 4 and 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 2, 1998, breaking the record set August 18, 1995, by approximately 17 megawatts.

Savannah Electric customers also set a daily requirements record, using 15,696 megawatt-hours across the entire day on Tuesday. The previous record was 15,500 megawatt-hours set on June 25, 1996.

The Company does not anticipate problems serving this demand at this time, however, is monitoring the situation closely.
